Spending the day with Minister Peter MacKay

A screen grab from my day for the Canadian Government and Canada's Justice Minister Peter MacKay.
When I say "spending the day", I really mean all day. Three separate events in totally different areas of BC's Lower Mainland. Vancouver, Surrey and Maple Ridge.
Sending images to Ottawa and Toronto in between events and gathering your equipment and battling the traffic for the next event.

It's a busy day but more so for Minister MacKay.

LINKEDIN portrait marathon

This is the second year in a row that I have been the photographer for Linkedin Marketing Solution event at the Vancouver Trade and Convention held in downtown Vancouver.
The day starts early as I have to have my setup ready to go at 8:00 am and it usually goes till 5:30 pm. A long day.During that time I will do 250-350 portraits. Each portrait takes about 1 minute, that's all I get. I have lots of people waiting so I don't have the luxury of taking any more time than that. Three to six images and the clients get to choose which portrait they like at the end. My camera is tethered to my laptop so I can keep an eye out for my exposures as well as showing the portraits.
My diagram photo shows how I do the set up. It's not the most complicated setup but it gives me a nice even light and the White lightning flashes recycle quite fast.
After the portraits are taken I start emailing the shots that the clients have chosen. I do this on my breaks and at lunch and when I get back the office. Like I said it's along day :-) But the people at Linkedin are great to work with so it makes the day fun.

BMO team of the week

A screen grab from a recent shoot for the Bank of Montreal. Sometimes getting everyone together and paying attention is like herding cats. Just getting all the kids and grown-ups to keep their eyes open and smiling can seem like a monumental task. Not so with this shoot. Everyone was great and we had a great time.
For this shoot I was up on a tall ladder ( provided by the municipal workers in Delta, thank you ) looking down on the kids and dignitaries. I shot about 15 images of this set-up and then in post I did a little fill light in the shadows and a little burning of the edges of the frame to bring the viewers eyes into the frame, that's it.

BMO is such a great company to shoot for!

A day with the Vancouver Canucks for TSN

After the NHL settled their lockout , TSN ( The Sports Network ) wanted images of the first day of training camps across Canada. I was hired to show the goings on in and around the Vancouver Canucks. Coaches, Managers, players, interviews and on ice images. OK yes I'm a Canucks fan but I've been taking pictures of the Canucks for many years and found it an enjoyable day working with the "Home" team.
I think these screen grabs give you a good idea how the day went. They were intense and serious but at the same time they shared a few laughs with each other. The season starts on Saturday, good luck boys!
