Golf on a shoe string.

This is a screen grab of a job for a local golf putter company located in Richmond BC. The job came with very little direction and just a vague idea of what they wanted in the images. It was an outside shot so really all I had to do was fill flash the product to get the proper exposure.
FYI-Art direction in an image is most of the time a good thing. If you want your product to look good, get involved in the final look.

BMO cover shoot

The story of this BMO group shot is a story of patience. Not with the people in the image, they were great.
After the image was printed as a cover I went about getting permission to post it to my blog. Easier said than done.
Eight people in the image, the magazine designer and BMO all had to say OK. After a few glitches and a miss timed phone call by me I finally got the OK to show the image on my web site and blog, one year later.
All good things come to those who wait, right.
I hope so.

The C.F.L. train comes to Vancouver

The Canadian Football League is celebrating 100 years of football in Canada. Part of the celebration involves a "Grey Cup 100 train Tour" across Canada. I was hired for the stop in Vancouver. I spent a couple of hours documenting the festivities for the C.F.L. Here is a couple of screen grabs of my images.

Event photography

When is a group shot not just a group shot?
When you have 4 or 5 other photographers waiting to take advantage of the group shot that you set up.

This is an image off the web of a shot I did a while back that I have not had a chance to get on my blog. It's not a work of photographic art or anything close to it but what makes it memorable to me is how it came to be.
I was coming to the end of the shoot and I wanted to do a group shot. I gathered the group together and set up the car, went to get a ladder and by the time I got back with the ladder the other photographers were getting ready to shoot the group.
So what have we learned here? Always wait until all the other photographers have left before you set up a new shot?
No.
Work well with other photographers because what goes around, comes around?
Yes :-)

Portraits with "THE CUP".

A small video of a job I did with Lord Stanley's Cup. The shoot was 3 hours long but the GO PRO camera recorded for an hour before the card ran out. I set it to take a picture every 5 seconds or so and I think it gives the viewer a good idea what went on at the shoot.
I compressed the images down to about a minute or so in the video.
I must admit that piece of silver hardware sure is popular and quite impressive.

Air miles and baseball?

Here is a shot I did for the Toronto Star newspaper. This baseball fan spends his air miles visiting baseball diamonds all around North America. So of course I took him out to the local field. I did about 5 different set-ups in and around the field and I like the one they chose.

BMW & Mini

A couple of screen grabs from a recent job I did at the Vancouver International Car Show. As with most jobs I do I'm in and out of the location in a very short period and the client does not have time for me to mess around with exposures and lighting. Get the shots on the list and off to the laptop to send them to Toronto.

One day I'll go into the cameras I use and what I would like to use. What I have and what I don't have or can afford. On a whole I think Canon's auto focus is really bad unless you pay big bucks for their top of the line cameras.  But that is a blog post for another time.

5 days in Vegas

As I sit in the lobby and think about my last four days in  LasVegas I'm thinking about what I tried to do with my images and what I actually did do with my images. Trying  to get new views of Vegas and not have all your images look like tourists on their first trip is actually quite hard. Even though Vegas is beautiful it is one of the most photographed cites in the U.S.A. and with the millions of tourists each year, one of the most photographed cities in the world.

Vegas is a city of contrasts.
Wonderful views and hotels, homeless people and card flippers on the streets. Blue skies but con trails. Wonderful food and really bad fast food. The strip looks great but it takes you all day to get around.
Peaceful looking areas but the constant noise that comes from so many people trying to have a great holiday.

I think the new Aria Hotel impressed me the most. The hotel and the buildings that surround it are fantastic
It's a futuristic view of what hotels can be, and photographically just plain fun to shoot.

Wow the graffiti on this wall just happens to be the same as my companies name. How did that happen. :-)

Around the world

Here is a CTV News screen grab of an image I did of Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfeild and "Man in Motion" Rick Hanson in Vancouver.
Rick was the first person to wheel around the world in a wheelchair and is still raising awareness and funds for spinal cord research. Chris is a Canadian astronaut and will be flying a Russian rocket to the Space lab in orbit around the earth for six months come November 2012.
Rick went around the world once and Chris will be going around the world many thousands of times in six months. I believe both feats are monumental in our human history and I was honoured to photograph them together.

Tyler Frost & PokerStars

Here is a screen grab from Pokerstars of a portrait I did a few months back. Like most of the images I do it takes a while for the images to come around. I mentioned before in my blog that Tyler was great to work with and we had a lot of laughs during the photo session.
